Hamlet in Belgium

Claudius has become king of Denmark after murdering his brother and marrying his widow. Hamlet, son of the deceased, loves the beautiful Ophelia, daughter of the chamberlain. He is visited by his father’s ghost who orders him to avenge him. Simulating madness, he dismisses Ophelia who loses her mind and drowns. Hamlet kills Claudius and ascends the throne, inconsolable at having lost the one he loves.
From February 26 until March 7, Nicolas Testé will return to the role of Claudius in Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège. Guillaume Tourniaire conducts Cyril Teste’s production, also featuring Lionel Lhote, Jodie Devos, Béatrice Uria-Monzon, and Pierre Derhet.
Oroveso in Barcelona

On July 18, 21, 24, 27 and 30, Nicolas Testé sings Oroveso in Àlex Ollé’s production of Bellini’s Norma at Gran Teatre del Liceu. Domingo Hindoyan conducts from the pit, with Riccardo Massi as Pollione, Marina Rebeka as Norma, Varduhi Abrahamyan as Adalgisa, Núria Vilà as Clotilde and Néstor Losán as Flavio.
Sarastro at Gran Teatre del Liceu

On June 27 at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Nicolas Testé will sing the role of Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte instead of Stephen Milling, who has tested positive for COVID-19.
The bass will join a cast that includes Julien Behr, Matthias Goerne, Joan Martín-Royo, Sara Blanch, and Serena Sáenz. Paolo Bortolameolli conducts the legendary production by Sir David McVicar.

As Colline, Nicolas Testé sang a moving farewell to his treasured overcoat. His bass voice is leaner and cleaner than many, and all the more effective for it.

This season, the Met celebrates the 40th anniversary of Franco Zeffirelli’s beloved staging of Puccini’s La Bohème. Nicolas Testé returns to the Met and the role of Colline on May 16, 20, 24 and 27, with Eleonora Buratto as the ill-fated seamstress Mimì, alongside tenors Matthew Polenzani, Stephen Costello and Russell Thomas alternating as her lover, the poet Rodolfo. Soprano Aleksandra Kurzak and baritone Quinn Kelsey are the on-again-off-again pair Musetta and Marcello, with Eun Sun Kim conducting.

Mr. Testé then gave us the Claudius” Act III aria from Thomas” Hamlet “Je t’implore, ô mon frère” which fell on fresh ears to say the least. His bass is bright and easy at the top... Mr. Testé opened the second half with the substitution of Gremin’s last act aria from Eugene Onegin... This was a beautifully intimate performance that brought forward all of the autumnal joy inherent in that piece. He also landed that tricky finale with no trouble.
